What is a Christian Prayer Room?
A place with the intention of connecting with God through prayer. The prayer room can be used individually, by a family or group and should be available for all ages.
We base our Holy Trinity Prayer Room around the 24-7 Prayer arrangements but for safety reasons we now close the Prayer Room at 10pm. 24/7 started in 1999 when a student-led prayer vigil suddenly went viral.
Today, 24-7 Prayer is an international, interdenominational movement of prayer, mission and justice; a non-stop prayer meeting that has continued for every minute of this, the 21st, century so far in over half the countries of the world.
Holy Trinity has been involved with 24-7 Prayer for many years now by transforming our church into a prayer room, once a year, for between 2 and 7 days with a number of prayer stations where people can pray read Bible passages, other books/leaflets, reflect and take part in various types of activities. These include writing a prayer request, making a craft keepsake and interactive reflection all to stimulate creative prayer. There is usually something you can take away from the prayer room as a reminder.
Our 24-7 Prayer event is held in a quiet, peaceful and spiritually fulfilling environment where God is pouring out blessing and answering prayer. The people who attend stay for as long as they wish, from a few minutes to several hours with many visiting more than once over the duration of the event. These people are being transformed by Jesus because they are drawing near and pressing into His presence.
Over the years our themes have included: The Lord’s Prayer, 23rd Psalm, Creation, Joseph and the “I am’s”.
In recent years Holy Trinity has become the focal point for the Gateshead West Deanery Prayer event and has always been well supported by the other churches in our deanery.
The event usually concludes with our normal Sunday morning Communion service but with the church arranged in an informal manner after which everyone shares a bacon sandwich breakfast.
